Each competition has a jury panel with reference artists from animation, cinema and fine arts.
Daniel attended the acting course at the Universidade Moderna, and later graduated at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema. He started his career 2003 in the Politeama Theatre company where he worked 7 years with stage director Filipe La Feria. In 2010 he wins the Emergentes Award for theatre and has been creating for the stage ever since. He is a acting and dubbing director at RTP since 2010. In 2016 he becomes the curator for the Performing Arts programming at RTP2. He is a guest faculty for the Drama program at ESMAE.
Noel Palazzo is a curator, screenwriter, lecturer and researcher with a special interest in abstract film, and the rich intersection between Fine Arts and Media. She occasionally delves into making experimental videos and animations, and writes essays as a film critic. A couple of her short films have been awarded internationally. Since 2004 she has been a member of MAD, a non-profit association based in Barcelona. Punto y Raya Festival is their greatest endeavour to date, championing abstract film and animation worldwide. She acts as a juror for various international festivals, and curates special programmes of avantgarde film and animation.
Marta Madureira lectures at Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave, where she is the head of the Illustration and Animation Programme. She has won several awards and special honors in national and international illustration competitions and has illustrated nearly 20 children books. She co-authors, with Pedro Mota Teixeira, the animation series “As Máquinas de Maria”, funded by ICA. With Adélia Carvalho, she founded the publisher Tcharan.
Raimund Krumme is an independent animation filmmaker who also directs commercials for the American and Japanese market. His animated shorts Ropedancers, Spectators, Crossroads, Passage and The Message have won many international awards including the Prix du Jury in Annecy, Silver Dragon (Cracow) and Grand Prix for animation (Montreal).
His films and drawings were exhibited in galleries and institutions worldwide. He taught at at the University of Minas Gerais, Brasil, was Full-Time-Faculty at the California Institute of Art and since 2006 he is Faculty of the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.
Wiola Sowa has a PhD in Film by the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts and the Lodz Film School. She is an academic at Institut of Media Arts at Pedagogical University Krakow. Two times laureate of the Grant of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Art. Grant of the City of Krakow, and the Grant of the Goethe Institute. Her films have won more than twenty awards, including: the Silver Dragon Award, the Silver Lajkonik Award, the FIPRESCI award at the Krakow Film Festival.
His fascination with the “Aesthetics of Motion” and “Drawing” were the major factors in his decision to study Animation. He attended the Classical Animation Program at the Vancouver Film School in 1999. His student film “The Fall” has been screened at various international animation festivals and has been the major influence in his quest for establishing himself as an animation filmmaker. In 2006 he had the opportunity to teach Animation in the academia. Throughout the years he took pride in and strongly felt the privilege of generating a sense of enthusiasm and an assurance of confidence in creative minds through Animation.
Laura graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Lisbon in 2009 and began working in final-arts and Animation at Sardinha em Lata. In 2012 she directs her first animated short “Três semanas em Dezembro” finishing her Masters in Animation at the Bournemouth University of Arts. In 2013 she starts working in Bando à Parte as Animation and painter. She co-directed the short “Nossa Senhora da Apresentação” with Abi Feijó, Alice Guimarães and Daniela Duarte. Radostina Neykova graduated from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts “Kr. Sarafov” with an MFA in Animation Directing and Film Studies. She received her PhD in 2005. She is Assoc. Professor in the Institute of Arts Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Science and Scientific Secretary of the Institute. Radostina Neykova teaches “Dramaturgy of animated film”, and “Animation techniques” in the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts “Kr. Sarafov”. Radostina directed award-winner animated shorts and is illustrator of children’s books. Radostina is also author of two monographies and over 50 papers on animated film and comics. She makes children’s Animation workshops in Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Russia, Macedonia and Germany.
Joana Mirra de Carvalho has always been connected to the performing and visual arts. Joana has participated in several percussion projects such as Toca a Rufar, Orquestra 7 and Karma Drums. Presently Joana is finishing high school at the Multimedia Technician course where she is developing several techniques and projects, with a preference for illustration and design. Joana wants to pursue her studies in Art and Multimedia
in the Fine Arts.
Sara grew up in an artistic environment, and used to draw with her mother. Later, Sara enrolled in Arts at José Gomes Ferreira High School, and even though she stood out, she had a feeling that it was not it and she went instead to EPI – Escola Profissional de Imagem. Fascinated by 2D and 3D animation, she decided to go back to 10th grade to see her illustrations come alive. Her education at EPI enabled her to work professionally. She still draws and paints, but the digital has conquered her interest, and she intends to pursue a career in the digital arts.
Born in Lisbon in 2003, where she lives until today. Student of Languages and Humanities (11th grade) at Camões Secondary School and participant, for the 2nd consecutive year, in the workshop “Le cinéma, cent ans de jeunesse” with the Filhos de Lumière. Interested in different cultural development activities (over the years), occasional babysitter, avid reader and cinema lover.
João Ferreira has a Degree in Equipment Design from the Fine Arts School of the University of Lisbon and a Master in Theater Studies from FLUL. He is Artistic Director of Queer Lisboa – Queer International Film Festival, since 2004. He was guest assistant professor in Art Studies at the University of Coimbra between 2006 and 2015. He was a jury member at the Berlin and Cannes Festivals, and at the Queer Festival in Bilbao, Turin, Prague , Vienna, São Paulo and Palermo. He is co-organizer of the book “Cinema e Cultura Queer”, released in 2014 and “The virus-cinema: queer cinema and HIV / AIDS”, released in 2018.
Priit Tender is an Estonian Animation, who has made several animated short films in 2D, stop motion and other techniques. His films are driven by surrealism, poetry and absurd folklore, they have won numerous awards in the major animation film festivals. From 2019 he runs the animation department at the Estonian Academy of Arts.
Adriana Sá is transdisciplinary artist, performer, musician-composer. She develops her own instruments and systems, while considering that music involves vision and space, beyond audition. Since the 1990´s, she presented her work in Europe, USA, Japan and Brazil. After many years exclusively dedicated to her artistic projects, she also obtained a PhD in Arts and Computing from Goldsmiths, University of Lisbon. Her scientific publications articulate creative practice, audio-visual theory, experimental psychology, neuroscience, and computation. She is currently a professor at ESAD.CR/ IPL and at Lusofona University Lisbon.
Luís Salvado graduated in Media Communication at the Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Políticas. Between 1999 and 2007, he was a writer and critic on the first series of “Premiere – A Revista de Cinema”, and an editor, writer and critic of the film section at the “Time Out Lisboa” and “Time Out Porto” magazines since the beginning of their publication until 2015. Nowadays, he is the director of the cinema TV channels Cinemundo and DStv Pipoca, as well as an editor of the film section of the SAPO Mag website, integrated on the SAPO portal. At the same time, he has also done several film-related presentations, wrote some criticism on cinema and comics, commissioned exhibitions about comics on the International Comics Festival in Amadora and took functions as a jury, not only on ICA, but also on film festivals such as Annecy, Cinanima, MONSTRA, Fantasporto or IndieLisboa.
Natalie Woolf is a Professor of Drawing for the Animation and Design Courses at Universidade Lusófona. For the last 9 years she has also been engaged in her own art practices at Atelier Concorde developing personal projects and visual research concerning drawing and experimental animated film. Originally graduating with a BA (hons) in Fine Arts from Leeds Metropolitan University (currently Leeds Beckett University). After 12 years of studio design practice, she moved to London and completed her PhD in the Design Products Department at the Royal College of Art. After graduating with a PhD and patented technology on her final project, Natalie continued to develop concepts for technologies and creative solutions for public spaces and urban design.
Ülo Pikkov is an internationally renowned filmmaker, producer and film scholar. He studied animation at Turku Arts Academy in Finland and since 1996 has directed several award-winning animation films, such as “Empty Space”, “Tik-Tak”, “Body Memory” and “Dialogos”. He has published articles on film, written fiction books for children and adults and, in 2005, graduated from the Institute of Law in University of Tartu, focusing on the media and author’s rights. In 2010, wrote “Animasophy, Theoretical Writings on the Animated Film”. For 10 years he was the associate professor of the Animation Department at the Estonian Academy of Arts supporting new talents and in 2018, he completed here his doctorate. In co-operation with Heilika Pikkov he has a production company Silmviburlane for documentary and animation films.
